Pretty girl!

Josette is currently at the Chuck and Don's in Highland Park, St Paul.

She is a very outgoing, cuddly, personable kitten, about 6 months old. She is a long haired brown tabby torti and already has a 'mane'.

Josie has 2 sisters, both are short haired, one a black torti and the other a brown tabby with white feet and a tiny stripe on her nose. They are all very well socialized and love people, attention and playing.

Babette, above, and Colette below.

Stop by Chuck and Don's and say hello to Josette!

Brothers

These two, 5-6 month old, flame point siamese x brothers will be up for adoption soon!

Aiden

and

Quincy

are a nice pair and we hope to find a home for them together.

They love to play and move through their foster home together often as well as sleeping and grooming each other.

Like cats who seek you out for attention? Those who love to purr in response to being talked to as well as pet? Those have extra thick coats that are soft and warm?

These boys would surely brighten up a home!

Special needs -

Cheveyo came to Pet Haven from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in March of 2011. He is 2.5 years old now.

Chevy was found at a garbage dump. His ears had frostbite damage and he lost the tips of them. He had scabs and scaring on his back legs as if he had been caught is some sort of animal trap - probably a snare - but he had escaped or someone found him and let him loose.

It seemed Chevy had found good fortune. He became a wonderful indoor fellow who enjoys games of rough and tumble chase with the other cats in his foster home. He gets along with the 2 medium sized dogs there. He loves his foster family too and comes for lap time, enjoys his toys and the windows he can watch the wildlife from. Sunny windows, people to love him, other cats to play with - life is good.

One day recently he did not come for breakfast. This is most unusual as Chevy loves to eat! He was found hiding under the dresser in a bedroom. When drawn out he could not bear weight on a rear leg, was obviously in pain and could only be coaxed to eat a little food. A trip to the vet was in order.

Chevy needed to be sedated to have x rays since he would not allow the vet to straighten out his leg and exam his hip joint. Radiographs confirmed that he had sheared off a portion of the ball of the femur. This loose piece and the rough edge no longer fit smoothly into the hip socket and painfully rubbed muscle and bone. No wonder he wouldn't walk! Soon he had pain meds to keep him more comfortable.

He was scheduled for surgery on a Wed. and was back with his foster family later Thursday. Chevy had the ball of the femur removed as well as some of the femur to shorten this bone so it would not rub into the socket in the pelvis and cause further pain. Once his muscles are fully strengthened he will walk and jump with only the smallest limp! It isn't know why something like this happens, for some reason the blood flow to the bone may have been cut off and the bone did not grow as strong as it should have.

Pet Haven has a Special Needs fund. We take in cats and dogs with no knowledge of their previous care. Some need to have all of their teeth extracted because of infection in the roots and gum disease. Some have broken bones, others have parvo or panleukopenia. A few, like Chevy, need to have femoral head and neck surgery because they were dropped from a balcony or jumped and landed wrong.

All of these procedures are ones that we have a responsibility to resolve to provide the best quality of life we can. We are able to do this only because we have generous donors, like you. If you are able to make a donation to help cover the cost of Cheveyo's surgery it will help us to offer this much needed care to him and others like him.

You can click here to make a donation on line from our website or can send a check to our mailing address:

Earmark it to Special Needs, to Chevy, or to other causes such as spay and neuter. We appreciate donations in any amount, small or large! Can't make a monetary donation right now? Think about volunteering for us or another group, hold a garage sale when it is that time of the year, like to scrapbook? make and sell cards to others.

Chevy says Thank you!

Look for further updates on Chevy as his healing progresses!

Pet Haven Cat Adoption, Sun. 1/22, 1-3 p.m.

We'll be at the PetCo in Richfield at 66th and Lyndale Ave. S.

Some of the cats attending will be:

Sylvie - the medium haired girl on the left. Spencer, the other tuxedo, is a resident cat at the foster home.

Peaches

Noah - an affectionate, people loving guy, Noah has put on a little weight this winter and is embarking on a diet (terrible word!) and some extra exercise to help him slim down! As he loses he will be more interested in playing, for now it is the laser light and pole toys to entice him to move around more - 3 x a day for 5 minutes each! In between he'll keep you good company and enjoy tummy rubs.

Wilma

Hudson - the boy who loves pipecleaners, plays fetch with you with them and snuggles up for a nap on you.

Candy - has a new 'do'! Her long fur was unkempt after living in the rough last summer and she's been shaved (no mats, just trying to get down to the lovely hair growing in!)

Anja - best in an adult home as she gives love bites. Her foster has recently discovered that when she nips that what she is really asking for is to be picked up and held and petted and petted! No more biting then! She's a very playful young gal who missed out on some of her own kittenhood while she was having a very early litter. She's making up for it now.

Paxton

Patches

These 2 boys, left and center, are shown with their sister who has been adopted. Very social, fun loving kittens who will be large cats. They are big kittens at 8-9 months of age.

and others!

In other news, Phoebe is in residence at the Chuck and Don's in Highland! This pretty girl is also as social as can be. She's good with another cat and loves people - children, adults - everyone! Phoebe is one of 3 declawed cats that Pet Haven has now, the others being Peaches and Meesha.

Stop by to visit - Phoebe at Chuck and Don's and other adoptable cats this Sunday at the PetCo in Richfield.

Koko

This pretty girl came back to Pet Haven after being adopted and in another home for about 18 months.

She and her foster mom have been reunited and both are as happy as can be to be - together again!

Koko was head-butting and reaching out for attention before she had been back a week. This lucky girl is now in her forever home.

Stan and Jack

These two brothers are living at a vet clinic that Pet Haven works with. They are looking for a home - together or, perhaps, with another cat or dog.

Both are light orange tabbys and are almost the same color. One has slightly darker coloring. They have deep gold eyes too - handsome fellows.

They are friendly and very social guys, enjoying games of laser light and fishing pole type toys with you, some time to cuddle and sleeping on the bed at night.

Stan

They also entertain themselves well - toys, if you don't have enough, you can go out and get more! Or, the boys say they'll find some common household items (pens and pencils, q-tips, small pieces of paper) that look interesting and they will try them out as toys too.

You'll probably need to have the wastebaskets and kitchen basket secured also - you never know what you might have thrown away that could be played with!

Do you have bookcases in your home or other shelving? It's always fun to jump up there and see what things look like from the heights.

All of that fun makes kittens so enjoyable. You'll just need to put away the dried flower arrangements and the breakable, collectibles and provide windows and a fun perch so they can be enjoyed. Do you feed the birds and squirrels outside? Stan and Jack would love to be bird counters.

Jack

Stan and Jack say hi, they'll be attending many of our Pet Haven adoption events or can be visited at the clinic. You can fill out an adoption application here for any Pet Haven cat you might be interested in.

Ms. Lacey, aka Mamma Bear

This pretty little girl is currently the cat-in-residence for Pet Haven at the Chuck and Don's in Highland.

Lacey, also known as Mama Bear, for her ability to keep the kittens and dogs 'in line' in her foster home, is a very outgoing and 'chatty' girl. She loves to talk and tell you about her day while you de-stress from your day.

Lacey would love to be an 'only' cat in her forever home but does get along with two of the younger kittens and will groom them and she does fine with the dogs - but she does not have to have a dog in her life either.

Toys, a perch to look out the window so she can make sure things are going ok out there too and folks to love her - adults, children - and this pretty lady will be happily at home.

Lacey believes she needs to supervise, and even taste test, in the kitchen. You will need to be armed with a spray bottle, keep bread, butter and other treats off the counter and dirty bowls out of the sink to discourage this habit.

But you'll love that you now have company when it is time to clean up!

Was one of your resolutions this year to keep the kitchen clutter under control? Lacey can help!

Stop by and say hello!

Pinkie's Christmas

Pinkie, so named because of her cute pink nose, was adopted before Christmas!

She's a well-loved member of the family and we were sent this cute picture of her! She doesn't even seem to mind the Santa hat!

Pinkie found a home for Christmas - and we hope that will be true for all of the homeless cats and dogs soon!

Sat., 11-1, Sun., 1-3 p.m. 2 Adoptions!

Pet Haven cats will hold 2 adoptions this weekend.

Sat. Jan. 7, 11-1 p.m.

Sun. Jan. 8, 1-3 p.m.

Different cats each day - stop by both times to see the kittens and young adult cats! Different color, different hair lengths, different personalities. Some good with children, some who prefer to be an only cat, some good with a dog. Lap cats, demanding of attention and others more laid back.

Paxton (male, brown tabby), Patches (male, white/black) and Pepper (female, brown tabby torti with striking markings). 8 month old kittens - playful, well socialized, full of fun and games and love people too.

Beautiful Candy, a brown tabby torti with longer hair, she's definitely a lap cat, fine with a dog, not overly fond of another cat.

Noah - handsome big fellow, loves tummy rubs, time with you, a very curious fellow. OK with a busy, ready to romp other cat, good with a dog. Needs lots of toys, playtime with you and windows to view his domain.

Peaches - a wonderful, loving personality. Gentle, playful, fine with another cat and respectful dog, likes people, 4 paw declawed, dilute torti (gray and peach).

Anja, petite torti, very playful, enjoys another cat to romp with and playing with you. She's easily over stimulated when being pet and will nip. We're looking for an adult home who will read her signals and help her to get over this habit.

Cheveyo - big, handsome, short ear tips from frostbite. He loves watching out the windows, playing with another cat who wishes to play chase and romp, ok with a respectful dog and a fellow who likes attention from you too.

Pretty little Dahlia is what we call a victim cat. She won't say 'no!' to another cat and then that cat will chase her and frighten her. She gets along with another gentle, non dominant cat and loves to play, look out the window and be with you.

Lacey or Momma Bear is definitely people oriented. She wishes to be a cook in her next life and is a bit of a pest in the kitchen but her winning ways make up for that bit of nuisance - just keep your spray bottle with water in it handy! Toys, windows to watch out of, a dog and, perhaps, another cat - this girl will be happy and content.

Peaches

Another beautiful girl is up for adoption.

Peaches is a dilute torti, she is mainly gray with some 'peach' coloring throughout her coat.

When Peaches came to us from another shelter and had a vet exam with Pet Haven it was determined that she needed to have some major dental work done. Along the roots of her teeth she had lots of infection and the only way to cure that is to pull the teeth and the roots.

Peaches was a good patient and took her pain meds after surgery and after a few weeks she is showing her great personality - she's full of games, loves toys, plays with the 3 older kittens in her foster home, has learned that the pug is not going to hurt her and likes to come for attention from her foster family!

What does a toothless cat eat? Just what every other cat eats - hard or soft cat food.

Most vets are recommending that ALL cats eat soft food daily. It gives you some options if they should need medication down the road because some things can be hidden in canned food. It is also more like a 'natural' diet for the cat - think soft mouse bodies. Eating canned food provides another easy way to get your cat to drink more water too. Most cats do not drink as much as they should and plopping a sixth of a tuna sized can of canned in a bowl with a tablespoon or more of water around it, gets the cat to lick up all the water too.

Dry kibble is popular with many too and Peaches is no exception. She gets a serving of that twice a day also.

Peaches has short hair, is 4 paw declawed and we'll get some better pictures soon - these do not show her pretty coloring very well.

Two adoptions this weekend - stop by Sat. or Sunday at the PetCo in Richfield to check out our adoptable cats. You can see most of them on line with bios and pictures at the website too!
