Jazz

Jazz recently came from another shelter to Pet Haven.

She was surrendered by her owner when a family member became allergic. She is 8 yrs. old and that had been her only home since she was a young kitten.

Jazz is a short haired calico who has been front paw declawed. She is a little chunky and her foster is limiting the amount of food she has access to in order to get her to loose a pound or two.

Since Jazz loves to be around you and also loves catnip toys, it shouldn't be too hard for her to drop those pounds and be a trimmer lady.

She is very people oriented and lived with another cat her age and children and got along with everyone well. Life at an overcrowded shelter was not to her liking, however.

While she loves to have attention from you and be near you, she will also do well when left alone when you are at work - a sunny window, a little fresh air to smell and she can entertain herself for hours!

2011 Fall Benefit

This is Pet Haven's fifth year to hold a Fall Benefit.

Who does it benefit?

The homeless dogs and cats we take in,

we further spay/neuter services locally and by giving grants to out-state and other rescues

we work with to help them alter more of the cats and dogs in their communities,

we work collaboratively through MnPAW to help fund and promote spay/neuter services,

we educate and support humane legislation.

If you have pets you know that vet care costs keep rising just as the costs for human health care keep rising. The animals we rescue have often not been kept up to date on even the most minimal care and repair of broken bones, healing of disease and dental care are needed as well as spay/neuter surgery, vaccination and treatment of fleas, earmites, mange, etc. It isn't just families and individuals who are being hurt by the economy - it is the companion animals that are left behind and neglected.

Who else benefits?

You do!

What a fun night out. Good food, good company, gathering with like-minded folks who have a heart for animals. You'll have a great meal, see and hear stories about some of the animals we've helped, have a chance to bid on varied silent auction items to fund our programs AND, you'll get to see the latest fashions on some of our latest adoptable or recently adopted pets. A style show for cats and dogs - it's hilarious!

Click here to purchase tickets to this year's event: October 29, 2011 at the Softel Hotel in Bloomington MN.

Unable to attend? Collect donation items for the silent auction, help volunteers who will collect, display and set up for the event and take down afterwards, make a donation - no matter how small your donation or time you can share, it will all come together to make a fabulous evening - for the animals we all love. Interested in volunteering?

Getting to know you

Sylvie was left behind when renters moved out.

She was very people friendly and was checked out at a vet that Pet Haven works with.

Tested for feline leukemia and fiv, she was negative for both.

She had her vaccinations and was determined to be spayed.

Sylvie didn't seem to like other cats -

Sylvie has had lots of company in her foster home.

Adult friends and neighbors arrived to meet this new girl. She was proclaimed a winner!

Children in the neighborhood came to visit, high spirited early elementary aged boys.

Sylvie loved them!

Gradually Sylvie has been observing the other cats in her foster home. The older female and male didn't seem to be too bothersome.

Ooops! Here comes Maggie! She's a lady who will put you in your place in short order.

What about Spencer? Not so sure.

One day Sylvie was put in the condo while her foster went visiting. Low and behold, when she arrived home both Sylvie and Spencer greeted her at the door! (Apparently the lowed door to the condo had been left open by mistake.)

So now, most of the time, Sylvie is out and about with everyone.

We still think she wouldn't mind being an only cat but given lots of time, she'd probably do fine with another respectful one.

What else would she like? Well - a loving family with several children she could play with and follow around would be right up her alley. But she hopes never to see another 'alley' in her life and wishes to be safe and pampered from now on.

Sylvie is a medium haired tuxedo with lovely, long white whiskers and eyebrows, cute white feet and tummy and some white on her face. She enjoys being brushed and combed too.

Growing -

Anja's kittens are coming up on 4 weeks of age!

When they walk now, they can get their bellies up off the floor -

They stop and sniff mom's wet and dry food as they wander past -

Soon they will have a litterbox introduced and begin to use that -

They posture in play, and then fall over because it was so hard to do -

Mom is very attentive and keeps her babies well fed and clean -

Anna and Sharmaine

Anna, or Anne, is the torti mom who was found in a backyard shed in St. Paul earlier this spring with 4 babies. If you love tortis, Pet Haven seems to be finding them frequently this year. We have 2 more mothers who are tortis.

As often happens, the kittens have all been adopted - in pairs, that's always fun!

Anna is in a foster home and is learning about being picked up and held - it isn't as scary as it used to be and she loves to play! She is fostered with another cat, Grace, who was adopted from Pet Haven.

Anna loves her toys and her coat has improved dramatically. Being spayed and cared for inside with good nutrition and someone to love her has made a huge difference in her life.

has a new Pet Haven cat that you can go and visit!

Sharmaine is a beautiful girl but she hopes you will remember that her outer 'looks' aren't all of the package. She is a very nice girl, loves to be around you, is social, toys are the best thing ever.

She is a torti point siamese cross and has unusual markings with medium length hair.

Stop by to greet her and say hello - tell your friends and acquaintances about her too!

These two girls are just a couple of the many cats and kittens looking for homes through Pet Haven. Check them out!

Shadow

Pretty girl - short gray tabby fur with some stripes.

She's out and about around you, likes to explore and loves her laser light and pole toys. She'll need plenty of time spent with you playing.

Shadow will come up on the couch beside you, knows just what that soft bed is for (to sleep with you) and is on an exercise and diet plan to drop a pound or two.

Shadow was an owner surrender at another rescue. She was turned in because she was a victim and hid from the multiple other cats in the house.

She is in a foster home with 2 pretty laid back 'brothers' and they get along pretty well although she isn't out unsupervised full time with them.

We think she'd love to be an only cat too - as long as her human will play, talk and be with her. She wanders around the house, looking out the windows, wondering what is going on but amuses herself well when you are gone. Shadow is front paw declawed.

Hot enough for you?!

Spencer and Big Red revel in the heat and humidity - their mom makes them come in the house and cool off periodically!
