Hector

Hector came from living outside in Dec. 2010. He's loving being inside.

He likes to talk -

He loves to be carried around in your arms and requests that when you get home -

He's playful -

Watching the outside world from the back of a couch is the best viewing spot - he wasn't so sure he liked all the wind when we had windy days this spring.

His first foster home had a respectful dog and an older cat and that was fine.

He's happy to meet your friends when they come visiting.

Hector doesn't like our adoption events very well, they make him kind of grumpy. He hopes someone who would like to give him a forever home will contact Pet Haven and come to see him in his foster home - soon would be good!

Having been rescued from a life filled with risks, not enough loving and no regular supply of food, Hector knows that if he is adopted that Pet Haven can bring in another cat to fill his empty foster spot. That would be a good day for Hector and a good day for the next feline!

More kittens coming up for adoption!

These cute kids will have spay/neuter surgery tomorrow and will then be available for adoption.

One family is interested in one of them but we haven't heard which one - they're going to have to make up their minds soon!

Can you guess? How many in the litter?

The following pictures are from a couple weeks ago and they are losing their 'baby blue' eyes now and getting their adult eye colors.

Carly - a female, a classic, dark orange or red tabby, she also has a couple of black spots on her pads and here and there in her fur - she was trying to be a torti like her mommy!

Spencer - a flame point siamese x, the only boy in the group. He's snoozing on top of Gibby.

Gibby - a pretty little torti - she is almost all black with a white streak on her tummy and chest and cream fur in her eyebrows and scattered here and there. Not much orange on this young miss.

Sam - who is cute? Sam says she is - a brown tabby.

In a few days their bios will go up on the website. If you are interested in any of them, you can send an adoption application too! We have an adoption this Sunday, 6/26, from 1-3 p.m. at the PetCo in Richfield.

Sisters

Kip, black and white, and Rudi, black, were born in early March 2011.

They are well matched in play styles and have started to come for some lap time - when they are not too busy playing!

Both girls purr eagerly when you pick them up and hold them.

Rudi is the live wire of the pair.

Kip does a lot of playing but is not quite as silly as Rudi is!

Wrestle a shoe?

Of course!

Wrestle each other?

Yes, that too!

Have a little lap time?

Yes!

These girls do not have to be adopted together but make a nice pair if you are looking for siblings. The foster home has 2 medium sized dogs (the girls are a little cautious around them but not petrified) and another older kitten and adult cat to play with - Ladybug, the adult, is like a grown up kitten and enjoys them thoroughly.

Silly Sylvie

This delightful young lady will be at Chuck and Don's in Highland for a week or so. Stop by and check her out -

Left behind in rental property, she holds no grudges!

Sylvie loves to play, is good with children and adults, is very outgoing and friendly, loves to be brushed or combed and she has medium length hair so that is nice. And she's quite the pretty girl on top of it!

Beautiful white whiskers and eye brows - paws and tummy.

Sylvie loves her cat tree with all the cubby holes to jump in and out of -

Stop by and see the real thing!

Many other feline bios and pictures at PetHavenMN.org.

Why go to the vet? Why keep vaccinations up to date?

It isn't unusual that we hear, "But, my cat is an indoor cat! Why does it need to have vaccinations???"

Thelma can tell you why!

She's about a year and a half old, she had her first rabies vaccination at about 4-6 months (along with several distemper ones too). She's been adopted.

Proud hunter that she is - she killed a bat - IN the house.

I didn't hear if the bat was sent in for rabies testing or not. But, if the bat were rabid, and the percentage is high in MN, then she was exposed to rabies and could easily have contracted it.

Having been vaccinated, she is protected.

Her rabies vaccination was up to date, was due to be boostered the end of this month and, I'd bet the vet did that a few weeks early.

Smart Thelma, smart owners, smart vet!

Of course, there are other good reasons for a cat to go to the vet. Having a wellness exam gives you and your vet the benefits of knowing how much the cat weighs, year to year. Gaining? Losing? A diet in order?

Let's look at those teeth! Cats can be prone to dental disease - poor ones who live for years with cavities (resorbtive lesions), in pain, un complaining. Ouch!

Stomach or bowel upsets? Keep a record at the clinic and then a plan can be made to resolve the problem.

Some new cats and older kittens

Hope is one of the new girls to join Pet Haven. She was taken from a hoarder house and went to a crowded rural shelter, she's been there for several years.

This pretty, young lady (probably only 3-4 yrs. old) is finding out what home life can be like in her foster home.

She's met the other cats there and is doing well, she's been brushed and brushed and her coat is silky smooth. She comes up on the bed for attention and knows just which food bowl is hers when it is time to eat! Soon she'll explore the screened porch and be more playful.

Cornelia came to her first adoption too and was a little nervous but loved being pet. Cornelia's previous story was not any happier than Hope's. She was discovered in the basement of a foreclosed home, when contacted the person in charge reported that yes, he knew she was there. He was trying to kill her by starving her to death!

Cornelia likes the couple of dogs in her foster home, is a little less sure about the other cats but they were nose to nose after the adoption yesterday and she follows the fosters around, looking for some loving - which they give with enthusiasm. She's a lucky girl, not yet a year old.

Sylvie was also left behind when her 'owners' moved out of rental property but the landlords found her shortly. She is an extraordinarily outgoing girl, very confident and just over a year in age. She loves to play, be brushed or combed and is very curious and affectionate. If you like the 'tuxedo' look - she is a classic with huge white whiskers, toes and a bib.

Noah came back to Pet Haven and has just turned two yrs. of age. He was adopted the first time at about 9 months of age. He's a handsome big boy - long and tall - and moved to his foster home and is already out and about with the small dog and the other cat who is up for adoption - Garth! In a few days they will learn to play and have a grand time.

Noah was returned when his adopters hit hard times financially and they were forced to leave their home.

Did you know that most cats live to be 14-18 years of age?

Adopting a year old cat or a 3 year old cat or even a 9 year old cat gives you many years of loving and companionship.

Why adopt an 'older' cat? Their personalities are formed. Their foster can tell you what they're like, what they like to do and whether they are more laid back or zany characters.

Every time a cat that is 'older' is adopted, we are able to take another one in -

off the streets,

left behind,

from an over-crowded shelter.

Help us to find a new life for these felines too.
