Snow White

We keep learning more things about Ms. Snow - more things to love and enjoy! You may be tired of that white stuff outside but this white girl is full of games and antics to help you get through a long winter.

Snow loves to play - she'll ambush you from under the bed.

She loves to have you play chase with her and will come find you again if you quit too soon.

She loves the stuffed animals she's found - they must have been meant for her!

She's been in her new foster home a couple weeks now and is really settling in, enjoying visitors to the apartment and getting friendlier and more at ease with everyone.

She loves to be on the back of the couch and watch folks walking by out on the sidewalk. She probably wonders why they are out in the snow as she used to be while she gets to be toasty warm and pampered now!

Manx?

Do you know what a manx cat is? Being a manx, without most or virtually all of a tail, is an accident of birth.

Some folks breed for that look and many of those kittens die before birth or shortly after from other spinal malformations. Occasionally it just 'happens' when two cats with tails breed.

We assume that is how Ms. Annalie became a manx.

She's a very cute brown tabby girl with short hair and just a stub of a tail.

She loves heights.

The top of the refrigerator - the top of the dining room hutch or bookcase. Perched on your shoulder as you move around the house!

Annalie loves her toys too - and snuggling in a lap to keep you company and to take a snooze. She's a people lover and enjoys lots of play time - with you or another cat or kitten. Her foster home includes a small dog and she is fine with him.

Like other Pet Haven cats, she has been tested for feline leukemia and fiv and was negative. She is up to date on her vaccinations, has been spayed, microchipped and dewormed several times, treated for fleas and earmites as needed. Her adoption fee is $130.

Go to the adoption application, fill it out and submit it and it will be sent to her foster home for a return call to see if this cute little bunny is right for your home!

Success - weight loss, a new home!

Jumbalaya came to us a rather 'chunky' boy - he had been free fed at a shelter and wasn't getting enough exercise, much less watching the calories he was inhaling!

His new foster home put him on a limited amount of food - measured out twice a day. Big boy that he was, he tolerated reduced rations in good humor and had 3 rounds of exercise each day.

He wasn't as happy or enthusiastic about that! At first it was hard to get him to raise a paw to reach out and grab at a fishing pole type toy that was being run across the floor in front of him.
Gradually, it became more interesting. With 3 family members agreeing to spend 10 minutes each day getting him up and active, soon he found it more fun and the ounces started to come off. What self respecting cat wouldn't love all that extra attention poured out on him?

Soon toys were great and he increased his activity on his own as well as continuing his exercise periods. He went to a new foster home, a large 'victorian' with a group of young adults living together and he had lots of space and stairs to go up and down to visit everyone many times a day and the weight continued to melt off.

He came to us in Aug. of 2010. Today he has a new home, a new friend, Cookie, and new family members who are as charmed with him as everyone who met him in Pet Haven were. Cookie is still under the impression that the dog is the boss in the house but Jumby is not very impressed with such an attitude!

He tips the scales at just under 14 #. He's lost a little more than 5# in 5 months - way to go Jumby! We wish you a long and healthy life!

Black again - a celebration!

Maybe some of you will remember reading about Panther on Monday Aug. 3, 2009? You'll have to scroll down a ways from the link.

Back in August 2009, Panther was adopted into a new home. The next morning he escaped out a window.

Despite posting fliers for blocks in the area, getting fliers to animal control agencies, searches by Pet Haven volunteers and others and even more extended ones by his fosters we could not find Panther.

At that time he was estimated to be about 7+ years old. He had been livetrapped and turned into a wonderful, loving fellow. He had lived on the streets for a long time.

Despite knowing that, it was very hard to have him disappear. His foster home continued to drive the area for many months afterwards, once stopping to pick up a dead black cat from the street, taking it to be scanned to see if the microchip would read Panther's number. It did not - was the chip lost? Another dead end.

On Monday January 17, 2011 a call was placed from Eagan animal control with a black cat found - the microchip number left. A Pet Haven volunteer looked in the database and found the number - imagine - it was Panther!

The foster home was called just before 10 p.m. and there were tears! Rejoicing!

Panther has been to the vet, he was covered with fleas, was retested, got his vaccinations and waited a day to have a broken canine tooth removed. He'll be going back to his foster home tomorrow. Home again - I'm betting it will be to stay.

Microchip - you cannot assume that a cat or dog who gets outside is dead within a day or a week or a month. Panther, now almost 10 years old, is proof positive.

A kind person had been feeding Panther for about 3 weeks and she was the one who got him to animal control.

Most of you readers have stray cats in your neighborhood - watch out for them, provide them with a plastic covered box for shelter with a roof and a small door, straw to burrow in or blankets you change often. Dry food and water - help them out, you may never know how the owner is worrying.

Black again? No, white!

Black haired Hector just had his moment in the spotlight - now we'll go to all white Sammy.

Sammy is a handsome fellow and a big boy!

He has medium hair and is long and tall, chock full of love and snuggles. He'd much prefer to be the only cat in his home. A respectful dog is just fine.

His foster says that he will follow you around until you can give him some attention and loves to sleep on your pillow and/or near your head. He has lots of love to give - in the form of hugs too.

He doesn't mind being brushed and combed as long as you are gentle and patient.

Sammy is front paw declawed, he has been tested for feline leukemia and fiv and was negative, is up to date on his vaccinations and has been neutered and microchipped. His adoption fee is $150.00.

He's waiting -

Meet Hector!

Hector came to us from a reservation a long ways away, a little over a month ago. It was bitterly cold and there was lots of snow there too -

He, other cats and kittens endured the long, long ride along with a larger number of dogs and puppies.

Hector is just an every-day, ordinary, black, short haired cat - who was very seriously ill. He had had fleas, still had them, and they had passed on to him a disease that attacks the red blood cells in his body. He was seriously anemic.

If he had been unseen the day of the transport and left behind, he would have died within a week -

If he hadn't gotten into a vet clinic 36 hours later, he wouldn't have been diagnosed and could have died in a foster home - a friendly boy who likes people really well, a great lap cat.

With a specific antibiotic for a month and prednisone, he has made a full recovery. He's been neutered, finally gotten his vaccinations today after having his blood count checked one more time. He's still in the process of being dewormed - we want to make sure his intestinal parasite 'load' is way down so he continues to be healthy.

He hasn't been introduced to other cats yet since he was so ill. He should do fine with a respectful dog, he's met a couple of medium sized ones with no great concern.

He's hoping to find a home that has toys, will keep him inside and warm and fed and that has one or more laps for him to curl up in.

Hector - one more survivor. A very lucky boy -

Ty - a happy tail for an ordinary black cat

Ty(rell) came to us from another shelter. He was 7 months old when they took him in. In a rural setting with few folks adopting and lots of black cats around - guess what?

He sat and sat - he waited and played - life was ok if you like lots of other cats and are satisfied with a little attention every day.

In the summer of 2010 Pet Haven took Ty - at 4 years of age. He had contracted a cold and it took some months on antibiotics to get that under control. He was well liked in his foster home - by the small dog, by several fosters who came and were adopted and he liked them too.

Today, that very ordinary black cat has a home of his own - a person who loves him, a cat he can snuggle and play with, a dog too - Now he is really home!

This is what his new owner has to say about him.

Ty is doing wonderfully. As I type this, he is lying in his cat bed next to my cat Seymour. They always hang out together and that makes me very happy. He is so sweet and has a very tiny little meow. I don't have a camera, but I will try and find one so I can send you some pictures. I'm very grateful that he is now home with me. He is a very sweet cat and I'm really glad he is with me. I would always see your cats at Chuck and Don's when I would go buy food, but because I still had 2 cats at home, one of who was 18, I knew I couldn't bring one home at that time. After I lost my cat Squeek, I knew I wanted to bring home another animal. I'm so glad Ty was available and that he could come home with me.

Sparky

Sparky was a tiny and thin kitten when he came to his foster home. What a difference a few months make! Healthy, happy, lots of personality -

Sparky loves to give and get affection. He curls up in your lap, gives kisses too and snuggles.

He has dogs in his foster home and enjoys them also.

Need a study buddy?

Sparky gets along well with another cat or kitten - he loves to play with them, snuggle and groom with them too.

He's an all around great kitten!

Snow? tired of snow?

Surely not tired of this Snow(white) - she's a beautiful young girl who loves to play.

This picture doesn't do her justice - she has incredibly pretty blue eyes.

We're not sure why she found herself outside, all alone with just a flea collar to keep her company - but she did. Now she's warm and safe inside a foster home. Attempts to find an owner over a 3 week period were fruitless.

Snow has a lovely coat as well as her eyes to draw your attention. She's very playful and loves to have you play games with her too.

In her foster home she is not fond of the other cats who are older. If she had a spunky playmate who wouldn't run from her, she might be fine with another cat but at this point we'd have to say she's looking to be the only feline charmer in the home!

Need someone in your life who likes to cuddle and give kisses? That's just one of her specialties!
